The well-known ORF journalist Jürgen Pettinger opens Qwien’s new series of events with his first novel Autochthon: SAMSTAGS um 4. Readings, lectures and presentations will take place in a relaxed atmosphere with coffee and cake.
Among them is the young musician and singer NOA, who will present some of his songs at Qwien.
Autochthon is set in a not-too-distant future in which a right-wing nationalist party has taken absolute power. A draconian remigration law forces people with a migration background to flee. But resistance is forming: single mother Natascha, street artist Malik and the academic couple Florian and Klaus fight against persecution and for a just future.
Inspired by Hugo Bettauer’s Die Stadt ohne Juden (1922), Autochthon draws parallels between the past and present. With seriousness and irony, Pettinger takes an astute look at nationalism and political intolerance – a satirically gripping appeal to civil society.
