Lange Nacht der Museen 2026, 6 p.m. to midnight
Zentrum Qwien is a research center with a vision: to give general history its queerness – and queer people their everyday history. Qwien officially opened in 2009. Alongside building up an archive and a library, the center’s remit includes conducting academic research projects and communicating queer history to a wider public, above all through city tours (Qwien Guide) as well as lectures and publications. In 2019 Qwien renamed itself Center for Queer History. In 2024 Qwien moved to new premises in Vienna’s fifth district, and since opening in June 2025 it has been Austria’s first queer cultural center.
The current main exhibition “Süße Triebe – 45 Jahre Schwulcomix” offers an in-depth look into Ralf König’s drawn universe, with more than 100 originals on display. The largest exhibition the star cartoonist has ever had in Austria traces the key developments in his comics and reveals the recipe behind his success.
With “Lesbian Tentacles and other Beings”, Qwien presents an exhibition by artist Katrina Daschner, whose work has for many years been one of the defining positions in queer-feminist contemporary art in Austria.
