Workshop – Saturday, 10 October | 2:30 pm

Comics can do more than entertain. They tell stories, offer insights into different realities of life and create visibility.

This workshop puts LGBTQIA* comics at its centre: works that make diversity visible, take up socio-political issues and open up empowering perspectives. Participants get to know comics that draw on experiences from across the LGBTQIA* spectrum and negotiate them in creative and artistic ways.

Naomi Lobnig of the queer*feminist education association EfEU presents comics collected in the brochure Queere Comics. Eine Empfehlungsliste für die Arbeit mit Jugendlichen. The brochure is aimed at people working with young people, and at anyone interested in comics more generally. Together, the group discusses the particular qualities and potential of the medium and looks at ways of using comics in educational settings.

The artist Mirjam Lingitz gives insights into her own work and shows how stories can be translated into drawing.

Whether a short comic strip or a whole zine: in the practical part of the workshop, participants can get creative themselves, experiment with image and text and put their own ideas down on paper.

Please note: the workshop also deals with sensitive topics such as exclusion and discrimination. We pay attention together to a respectful atmosphere and aim to create a safer space for exchange and creativity.

Target group: The workshop is open to everyone who would like to engage with queer comics, regardless of prior knowledge or artistic experience.

Registration: Please register at office@efeu.or.at. After registering, you will be informed whether a place is still available. Your place is secured once the participation fee has been paid.

Participation fee: 30€ for educators and NGO staff, 50€ for staff of for-profit organisations, pay as you can for private individuals and students
