An Evening with Bianca-Maria Braunshofer
Bianca-Maria Braunshofer is co-founder of the queer-feminist bookshop o*books. As a social pedagogue and Germanist, she runs workshops on feminism and queerness through literature – together with her therapy dog Gigi. The two of them live in Vienna.
Und jetzt Queer!
Reading opens up the world. In good stories, we learn something about ourselves and the many forms life can take. Literature can be a home, an open question, a space of possibility beyond everyday life. And yet: why does the classical canon show us only a small part of the world? Why do schools and literary culture so often convey a norm that doesn’t exist – not in the world, and not in literature either? Why is the diversity of queer identities and lives so rarely reflected in how literature is perceived?
These are questions that Bianca Braunshofer, Marlon Brand, and Tobi Schiller have long been grappling with. In their book, they take a close look at queer literature and show that it has always been part of literary history. Their reading and writing is an invitation to recognise the full breadth of what literature can be.
With a glossary and many reading recommendations – from Chinelo Okparanta to Stefan Zweig, from Torrey Peters to Audre Lorde, from Sappho to Kim de l’Horizon.
