Overview

Revival of the successful play

“Ich bin Ruth” is nominated for several NESTROYs! Not only as “Best Off-Production”, but also the video, stage and costume designers Hannah Berki and Monika Kovacevic are nominated as up-and-coming talent and Clara Luzia in the audience category. Congratulations to all nominees!

Now the play is being resumed at the Semmelweißklinik.

Ruth Maier was born in Vienna on November 10, 1920. After Ruth’s sister managed to flee to England in December 1938, her mother and grandmother followed her within six months. Ruth alone decided to emigrate to Norway because she was able to complete her A-levels there. She initially stayed with a family there and later found work with the Women’s Employment Service in Biristrand, where she met Gunvor Hofmo. The two became lovers and lived together for a time until Ruth was arrested in November 1942 and deported to Auschwitz. She was murdered there immediately after her arrival on December 1, 1942.

The play version of “Ich bin Ruth” consists exclusively of texts by Ruth Maier from the years 1934 to 1942. All the song lyrics that Clara Luzia set to music and arranged for “Ich bin Ruth” are by Ruth Maier. And the projections of the theater evening consist partly of original photographs, as well as copies of Ruth’s drawings and paintings.

Ich bin Ruth – Special on Monday, November 10, 2025, 7:30 pm on the 105th birthday of Ruth Maier with a discussion round after the play.
