Overview
Book presentation & discussion
Movement histories of queer Black people and People of Color went unnoticed and ignored in Germany and Austria for a long time. The volume presented on this evening is intended to change this. Narratives and reports by contemporary witnesses and activists focus on historiography beyond white movement history.
The publication, edited by Tarek Shukrallah and presented with Sushila Mesquita, is an activist intervention in a cis-heteronormative history of anti-racist struggles, but also a critical perspective on queers of color in the German-speaking context.
The volume archives more than twenty stories of successful and ongoing struggles of queers of color, of “elders”, of role models. The texts provide testimony and inspiration for current and future generations of queers of color in their struggles against capitalism, racism, queer hostility, sexism and for emancipatory freedom.
